چکیده
Abstract Introductions of macroalgae are becoming more common with increased surveillance and the use molecular tools to unequivocally identify invaders. We here report two non-indigenous macroalgal species newly confirmed be present in New Zealand. Pachymeniopsis lanceolata is an irregularly divided foliose blade, first detected Lyttleton Harbour/Whakaraupō, South Island but also reported from North Island. It has known introductions its native range Pacific Asia Mediterranean, Atlantic eastern Pacific. The introduced cox 3 haplotype was found Zealand, suggesting a secondary introduction previous area, we novel case multiple introductions. Fushitsunagia catenata , recent segregate Lomentaria, Whakaraupō initially identified as Champia . Rbc L data shows that it belongs F. This Asian origin been have Spain, Mexico, Australia. provide morphological reproductive descriptions Continued surveillance, follow up monitoring, needed track expansion effects these on biotas.

متن کاملManagement of introduced mammals in New Zealand
Of the 31 species of exotic mammals that have current wild or feral populations confirmed in New Zealand, at least 25 are actively managed as pests in at least part of their range to reduce their impacts on biodiversity and production values. This paper summarises the current legal status of introduced mammals, the strategic and tactical options to manage them as pests, and their actual managem...

This study uses data from repeatedly measured forest monitoring plots (20 × 20 m) (n = 32) and nine ungulate exclosures (paired fenced and unfenced plots; 20 × 20 m) to show the effects of introduced ungulates on tree regeneration in Pureora Forest Park, central North Island, between 1974 and 2002. Results show that introduced ungulates, particularly red deer (Cervus elaphus scoticus), have sup...
متن کاملInteractions between Native and Introduced Bees in New Zealand
There are about 40 species of native bees in New Zealand, all belonging to the two most primitive bee families. Seven species have been introduced and established, five of which belong to the most advanced family of bees. All bees exploit similar resources such as nest sites, pollen, and nectar, so the question arises as to whether native and introduced bees are competing for these resources. S...

These examples can be taken as typical of what has happened wherever native vegetation has been cleared and replaced by pasture. There has been no competition between native and introduced species, either for food or for living space. All but subsoil species among the native earthworms have died out before the introduced lumbricids became established, and the few subsoil earthworms that have re...
